    200x alternative engine replacement

What other engines will fit into an '84 200x frame with little to no modification to the frame? I'm just curious, I heard that xr200 engines from the same years will fit, what about current year engines, or in other words...what new engines will fit into a 200x? How about higher displacement engines? I think it would be really cool if an xr250 engine or something like that would fit.

Nothing new or bigger will fit without spending the bucks and time into custom mods.

Im not sure about new model engines but older engines like the 185S or the other 200cc Honda 3wheeler models also work ( like the 200S not sure about the E model) with little to no modifications. The only drawback is that all these engines are automatics.

I still wanna see someone put a 125 pinger in a 200x. That would be killer.

I believe there are replacement 200cc engines at beatrice cycle that bolt right into the 200x frame. I heard greenhuman is using these engines for his 200cc atc70 conversions. They are electric start also. Look for the replacement engines section and there are four upright engines that I believe will fit into the 200x.

ok in the 84 200x you have a few choices, any of the 185lr or xl motors before the rfvc head design, and as far as new motors the xr100 will bolt right in but all these motors require frame or fende rmods, due to reverse kickstarters, somethiogn i ahve done that IS possible is to use an xl200 motor but replace the kicker shaft with the 200x one and use the 200x clutch cover this solves the reverse kick dilema and it is an almost direct bolyt in, and then you have a 6 speed trany also.

    Solid Snake,

ALL of the 185, 200 ATC's, XR's and even current CRF150 and CRF230 will bolt directly into your frame!

Better yet is that all of the parts between all these engines will interchange as well. I know because I curently hop up CRF150's and 230's with my old ATC200X knowledge form back in the eighties. A current stock CRF 150/230 head is better than a full blown race head from back then. Comes with big ports and valves right out of the box!

    Good luck

Whoa whoa whoa....you're saying that I can get a new CRF230 engine and it'll bolt right into the frame? Holy crap that would be sweet. Does anyone else know if this is correct? I just can't imagine that really, what about the carb setup then, obviously the 230 engines carb would be needed, but then the position for the airbox boot may not be aligned right? Also what about the kicker going the wrong way like brapp said? How about the exhaust pipe? I can't imagine that the exhaust pipe would have the same mounting points. Ok on the XR engine note....up to what year will the XR200 or whatever else XR engines fit in the frame?

Before everyone gets excited about the crf230 you have to remember it's just an old air-cooled motor in a new style bike. So I guess what I should have said is nothing new or bigger worth while is going to just bolt in.

Well if Mike says the head design is that much better then the old 185/200 series I'd say the whole engine swap would be worth it. Then you just have to upgrade the suspension a little bit.

A piped crf230 makes less then 13hp at the rear of the bike! Replace the rear bike tire with a set of atv tires and that number will go down. Unless a modded 200x makes 8hp then it hardly seems worth the trouble.
