I know the feeling Pete. I have a mostly stock 86 ATC 250R, a totally built 85 310R and an 05 TRX 450R. The 450R kills the stock 86 in short and long drags, but gets smoked by the built 85R. Many drag races always the same results! My 450R has a pipe and Jet Kit, and the 86 R has pipe and filter with better jets. The 85 R has a resleeved stock cylinder that has been ported to the max! It also runs a Duncan Powerhead with PT Hir rev pipe and 38mm Airstryker Cab with no Airbox lid and K&N with outerwear. I also run a 14 tooth front sprocket.

I think a ported 250-R will smoke a ported 450. If you big bore the 450, then maybe you have a chance. I sure would like to race ya once with my 250-R!!!

i know i raced a piped and jetted yfz on my 250r and beat him by 3 bike lenghts.numerous races, same results.different riders same results.we lined up many bike in the feild one day,450r,predator,400ex,tri-z,250r,and a mojave.that mojave smoked us all, lol, yeah right.really though the predator came out on top everytime, with a dead even race between the rest of us.whoever got the better start finished a hair ahead.but noone cleary pulled away.you guys are just trying to justify your moronic decion to spend 7 grand on a quad that gets it's arse smoked by a 20 yr old trike.some body bring one of these big bad 450's to the drags at trike fest.i have yet to ride,or racea 450 that smoked my r!!!!!!

this is the smartest post ive read in this whole forum. you guys need to take into account that the 250r was built 21 years ago, and the 450 is brand new with new technology. when you factor out prices, the r comes on top. while a 450r sucks 7,000$ from your bank account, a worked 250r would barely hit half that much, inc. cost of bike! im sure with 1,000$ into a 250r it would beat a trx450.

dont get me wrong, 450s are scarry fast, but with half the money you can build a screamin 250r.

I enjoy my $6000 450r, that was the OTD price! I still like my big bore 85 250R, but seriously other than drag racing, I prefer that new smooth suspension, the far superior ride, and not to mention it takes turns better. I didn't waste $6000, it was money well spent and I still enjoy my 85 R that has a total of $3700 or so in it. That includes the purchase $1400, the big bore motor $900, the several times it has been rebuilt $400 for 2 top end rebuilds. The $300 or so for the bottom end crank rebuild. The $150 for new tires. The $250 for the PT hi rev pipe. I also have about $200 in replacement plastic. None of this takes into account the wear or maintenance item which both need! I am just glad that I can afford to own both plus others, but I hardly wasted any money on any of my purchases!

I agree, you call it wasting money, I think it could be the best 6 grand I've ever spent. I would rather be on my R than a 250r anyday. Its just that much better in the suspension, the way the powerhits, the ride in general, and not to mention everything is uptodate, and you can ride it many times as hard as you want and not have to be working on it.

If I had the money to spend I would buy a 450-R just because they are awesome rides. But back to the drag racing. When you port a 2-stroke, it makes alot more of a difference than it does on a 4-stroke. You can't even compare the 450-R to a 250-R when used for all out drag racing. The 20 year old technology will still stand on top. If you limited the two machines to use stock honda engine parts (pistons, cams, bore size) the worked 250-R would absolutly roost the 450-R. I think this moron would make you eat your words AirManCam, bring on that 450!!! Any time your ready big girl.

I will really try to have a 2006 450R at trikefest. Call me cocky, arrogent, a dumb ass or what ever you want but I will not loose to ANY 250R at trikefest. I will put money on it. Keep in mind the 06 runs circles around the 05 and I don't leave my bikes stock.

Think what you want but I can tell you don't have any experience with a 450R Especially with with engine mods.

Rumor has it the new 06's is putting out 45 hp stock, as to the 700 raptor at around 40. I Think the 05s put out 38-40.
