Well for one thing there is no such thing as a 89 honda atc 150. The last production year for honda atc's was 1987. If you can get the right year and model we can help more. If you can't identify it, if you can get a picture of it up we can do that for you. It has some problem with the transmission/shifter, I don't know much about transmissions but someone else can help.

    89 Honda ATC

Whatever it does turn out to be. It is probably worth $150 if it runs good and is complete. Something might be bent or broken inside the transmission. Has it been sitting for along time? Something may be rusted up.

    Not in the this country.

Sounds like it might be either a 110 or 125M. They had some tranny problems (although I cant recall what) so thats where I would place my bet as to what it is

Is that Riverside CA? If so, there are a million trikes in great shape all around You. Just keep that in mind. BTW, welcome to the world of trikes! There's nothing like a Trike.

If it is a 125M or a 110, check the HI/LOW lever. Sometimes they are hard to engage. Try rocking the trike as you push the lever with the engine NOT running. I had a 125M and it was difficult to change while my ATC90 was very easy to change. Maybe there is nothing wrong with it! If its a honda, its definately worth 150 bucks. Good parts are hard to find.
