86 Tecate axle swap with T4, mojave ,lakota?

I was looking at http://www.powersportspro.com and the OEM parts finder shows the same axle part number 41068 for the 1986 / 87 KXT250 as for Tecate 4 KXF250 and all years of Mojave and the Lakota.

My question is why do I keep reading that finding an axle or extended one at that is hard? Is this not a simple swap between oems? The part #'s match. Shouldn't after markets like Durablue fit with the right hardware?

    I picked up an 86 T3, 84 T3, and an 86 T3 rolling chasis for $1300 and have lots of ?'s.

I dont really think i need the 84. It has no spark.

you have to be carefull with that site, they list 85 and 86 250r pegs as the same and they are different, check it better for yourself go on to kawaski's web site, they have a parts fiche for their bikes, check it there, not on powersportspro.com. I've found other wrong part numbers on that site too, 350x parts I believe and some other 250r parts.

I bet your Tecate with no spark needs a new stator.

I don't think its such as simple swap between the T3 and T4 axles. I would imagine the brake/sprocket hubs would be different as well as brake mounts and such.

That 84 looks complete, no parts missing, wouldn't take much more then a stator and some elbow grease to get her in running condition. With some cash it could be a really sweet bike.

Oh and welcome to the board man. Some great info on here.

    Thanks BigGreen!

    Kawasaki site says axle is:
    86 T3 41068-1216
    T4 41068-1239
    Mojave 41068-1235
    Lakota 41068-1235

    But...
    86 T3 Stator 21003-1177
    84 T3 Stator 21003-1176

Isn't the stator the same for all years?
The 84 might need a stator but I saw some suspect wiring.

I found another post saying mojave axle definately does not work.

A big thanks to the guy that pointed out that website has junk numbers (reference only).

Tecate-4 axles were redesigned. They use an eccentric carrier for chain adjustment, similar to a 250R. Where as the Tecate 3-Wheelers all used the "swinging" type carrier.

I've been told in the past that a Tecate-4 axle and a Mojave axle will not work in the 86 3-wheeler carrier. Never tried myself though.

The stators will interchange between 84 & 86.

Look for an extended 400ex axle. I put a RPM Dominator axle in my tecate bearing carrier. I used a 350x brake disc hub and axle nut. I also modified an 84 T3 brake disc to work. You will need to space out your brake caliper if you do this.
