    Unhappy Very Bad Problem! HELP!

Hi dudes i have a 83 ytm200 that me and my dad have been working on for about a year. Today we took the carb and the 2 screws off to clean the carb. Then the worst thing happened possible!! My dad doesnt want to take the engine apart he says thats worst case sonario. But 1 screw fell in the hole that you mount the black rubber tube to the engine . We cant find the screw. Also are elctirc start option is dust to dust. ITs only pull start know but at the moment its no start because the screw jammed the pull rope!!! Anyone got any ideas to get it out??? PLease help anyone Thanks Joe

Hmmm.... I'd think your screw would have fallen into the cylinder. Do you have one of those magnetic fetcher tools? You can put that in where the screw went in, or take out the spark plug and go in from there. Basically an old radio antenna with a magnet on the end. It wouldn't get into the recoil starter.... if it fell in where the carb bolts to the cylinder.

If you cant get it out with a magnet, you'll have to pull the head off. I think a magent should get it, it wouldnt have got by the valves.

It wouldnt have got by the valve i wouldnt think, so it wont be in the cylinder. You would have to get it through the intake side of the head with the magnet.
Dont turn the bike over at all, you might get it lodged in between the valve or something.

Did you try starting the motor after the screw fell into the Black tube ( intake manifold? )? If you did try starting it, did the motor turn over some and then stop suddenly?

If so, it is possible that the screw fell into the intake manifold and down into the valve where it possibly got wedged holding the valve open. If the vavle is held open the piston will hit the valve and stop the motor from turning over. If this is the case, it's possible the vavle might have gotten bent when / if the piston hit it. I hope this isn't the problem, but I have seen it happen.

Another possibility is the screw fell in through the vavle into to cylinder. I might also add that it is possible the valve was open in the first place and it fell into the cylinder.

How to get it out: Remove the pull starter and rotate the engine backwards a little. Take the spark plug out and then using a fishing magnet ( like 350x'inNY described ) try fishing for the screw via the spark plug hole ( like 4cylinders stated ). If you can't find it then try fishing it out via the intake manifold ( Black tube ). More often then not I have found you can get them out via the plug hole though ( if it's in the cylinder ).

    I hope this helps.

Everything that Howdy said, and if all that fails.. consider the valve covers, might be able to find that in there..

    Good luck !
