    Polaris question

    I'm trying to locate where the cooling fan thermostat goes on a 1995 300 4x4. When I noticed it was broken,I ordered a new one.I never looked to see where it was mounted to. I found 1/2 of it dangling from the wires while I was removing the carb.The other half of the thermostat was a mystery until I recieved the new one. It has a threaded stud that screws into something.
    I spent the last 2 hrs taking pieces off this machine trying to find out where the thermostat might mount to; plastic panels,belt housing vent system,gas tank,airbox,carb,and a few other brackets.After all that was done I had a nice view of the head/cylinder and top of tranny.I still didnt find the other half of the old thermostat.I would imagine it would have to be screwed into something metal that gets hot in order to work properly.I checked everyplace the thermostat wires would reach .I also took off the belt cover thinking maybe its in there someplace,,,nope.
    I'm beginning to wonder if this machine is missing other parts. Can anyone help??

    are nyou sure thats not a neutral switch? I cant find anything in my polaris repair manual that I have here in the office. Its a crappy manual but I figured surely it would have something. Its not water cooled and they screw into the radiator on those models.. There is nothing on the cyclinder or head anywhere that you can see?? I have a 250 in the shop right now, I dont know if its the same but I will look tommorow on it for you if you havent figured anything out.

    The wires on this lead right to the fan. There isnt a radiator on this model either.

    This atv sat in my boss's garage for years because when it did run it was only for 15 minutes and it usually left you stranded someplace in the woods;usually carb related. Now that I've taken it home (again) it has only caused me more grief. I did get to ride it for about 2 hrs since I've had it and did some awesome four wheelin(I had the fan wired to stay on all the time).Now I'd like to fix it the right way.


    This schematic makes it look like the thermostat mounts to the top engine mount.On the engine mount in my polaris there isnt anyplace for it to mount too.

    Jim, I've been pouring over the fiches .... and I can't find it. I would just wire it up to run all the time or just remove it completely. It is an aircooled motor - I only think its on there for low-speed stuff. There is no mention of it on either the fan diagram or the wiring harness. I do see the two blade connectors that are in your pics attached to the tailight harness.

    Jim, looking at that diagram it appears the switch bolts onto the upper motor mount bracket. It might be possible that someone has changed the bracket at some point, thus you don't have a mounting hole for the switch.

    Howdy, After looking at your diagram I went back out to the poohlaris. I saw this weld earlier but there wasnt any remnants of a hole.I figured it was just cracked and welded. I'm guessing the engine mount broke a long time ago and whoever welded it was too lazy to grind thier blob of steel down,drill and remount the thermostat.
    I will mount it there and call it done. I want to get this thing back together before the weekend so I can pound on it some more.
