84 250r problems

my 250r is killing the plugs. and when i pull the plug out after it was running is it soked in gas plus the plug is black. when im riding the bike it seems like its bogging down or lagging. would this be a reed problem. Or if anyone has any info on this please respond. thanks chris

Sounds like a jetting problem to me. Your running too rich. Main jet is too big I think.

the main jet is a 142

I am approx the same elevation and proble temp as you, and I am running a 125 main...I would drop a main jet for sure (more than likely a couple sizes), but dont do anything real drastic. I had the same problem as you with the gas and color, so I dropped 2 sizes.

Oh, by the way...when you check your plug color do you kill the motor at higher RPM's or let it idle down like a 4 stroke and kill it?? If you shut her down at a higher RPM it will give you a bit more of a true reading, but you are too rich

yesa im going to buy a 138 and a 140 jet tomorrow and see how it will work. thanks for the help any more info would be great.
