I say forget the SX rear shock and get a shock from worksperformance.com. Stock the SX rear shock travel sucks but is adequet if you only trail ride I guess.

I can honestly say that its like a night and day difference. If you can stand the price you'll love the ride.

I like the look of the sx, and the fact that its a tractor anyway. What do you plan on doing anyway? for the casuall ride, if your a big guy of like camping, get the Big red, if you like to ride allot and want to go fast, get the sx!

In my opinion i like the sx!

Your X might be a little faster but not by much.

I'm not a big guy, but plain to do the camping, fishing, trail rideing gig, Plus I'm building a 84' 200X for the fast times............Putting a powroll 198cc Eco. Kit in it plus much more. So the BR will spend its time doing the work and crusing the trails

Hey. I'm pretty shure that the shock on the BR and the SX are the same on the rear end but the swingarm is positioned lower on the sx to deliver more power to the pavement and so she can have more give in her suspension. Your front shock are totally different and you would have to do a fair bit of messing around and tinkering to get the sx shocks on the br. The sx forks are straight like on todays dirtbike. There alot longer and I'm not even shure if your frame, where the front end connects to it, would allow for the sx to fit at all. More than likly the bearings and all are different. Personally if you have to time and money go for it, but I believe that the BR should be left as is. Also your frame is different between the 2 bikes. They wouldn't be equal on the trail because the sx has more center-of-gravity and this is because the frame isn't as long, the wheel base is shortened and the frame isn't as wide.

I asked about putting SX suspension on my big red once and was advised it wasn;t worth it as the suspensions are nearly identical and the SX forks are not that much better.

I also could not find 5th gear in the tranny to be any different but the rear pinion is different and is a lower gear ratio to compensate for the 25 inch tires its almost an exact match to the big red when you factor in tire height and calculate axle ratio.

I'm told by someone who's had both apart that it's a " 1 tooth " difference in the rear end pinion gear .

heres the link with the gear ratios of both. if you plug the numbers into an axle ratio calculator used by jeep and mud truck guys the differences are consistent with what would need to be changed to keep the sx gearing the same for 25 inch tires.
