    Topend Reassembly timing chain tips

    I have a 1983 185s that is going together hopefully by two weeks from now, before i couldnt get the cam chain on when it was together. is there a trick to this?

    yes wait to the sproket on the camshaft? Oh well here ya go. Put the camchain on the camshaft sproket with the "O" facing upwards. Make sure you are at TDC though. Then put the camshaft angled in so it goes together. I think it is tricky when you have to put the camshaft spacer(must be on camshaft) in the little hole. If this confused you i am sorry. I just finished doing this on my X.

    remove all tension

    Make sure to remove all of the tension by pushing the tensioner down all of the way through the tensioner locknut hole. The locknut must be loose in order to do this. With all of the slack it shouldn't be too hard or atleast it wasn't for me the many times I did it. Also put a screwdriver through the recoil cage and have someone hold it so the bottom stays a TDC and this will make stuff alot easier. Goodluck with your rebuild.
