Yamaha or Honda. Get the newest bike you can within your price range, as suspension is something that is usually changed every year. You might even look into getting a late '90s or early '00 bike. I picked up my '01 for $1850, and I know that early '90s YZs aren't a whole lot cheaper than that.

If you are looking to do alot of jumping, make sure that the bike has upside down front forks.

you can get a newer 2 stroke race bike for pretty cheap, race bikes dont really hold there value because every year there is something bigger and better than the year before.

Not sure what's the best now, but my 1990 KX 125 was awesome. I don't know what was done to it prior to me getting it, but it ripped. It had Dyno-Port pipe and twin air filter. I never rebuilt it in the 6 years I had it. I'm sure it could have used it, but it ran great so I never did it. Good luck.

I would highly Not recomend buying a race bike, the reason there so cheap is they get a abslute living crap beat out of them....i worked at a bike shop..DONT GET EM lol unless you like lemons.

i think i sort of would want an ex race bike. Hell if it can rip for at least two good years with only needing oil changes, an maybe a new piston/rings... it'll do me just fine. Found a nice 1988 CR125R with a pipe, bored to 143cc, and has aftermarket suspension for 350. I think im gonna get it. Can you interchange the motors/jugs on these bikes? If so that would be truly awesome.
