    1985 200x problems starting

    I got a 1985 200x that won't start

    What I have done so far

    1) New NGK DR8ES-L

    2) Change oil with honda grade...

    3) Fresh 87oct gas

    4) Recharged the K&N air filter also tryed separating the carb from the air box

    5) Pulling the plugout and cleaning it

    6) adjusting the idle screw

    does it have good compression? makes a big difference wether it will run at all

    how do I check the compression? I was thinking of buying a used carb online....

    i noticed that the new plug was blackish and wet I tried cleaning it no luck...

    pull the plug again and reconnect the plugwire. hold it against the frame and kick it over. look for a pretty bluish white spark. If it's orange its week and no good. so your coil inside your stator is bad. that's what happened to my x and I've seen it 100 times on these boards.

    Also your plug should be more of a brown cardboard color I believe you may be running too rich.

    Maybe if your a little more specific about what happened. Was it running aleady? Did it smoke bad? did you do any mods like a performance pipe? stuff like that.

    Ignition. Youll probably find no spark at kickover. My 250R had the same problem till I found a bad terminal on the CDI plug, I could kick till my leg was dead and it wouldnt start, now that Ive fixed the wiring, it starts on 1/2 kick on a good day.

    Plug cleaning tip - if the fouled 2 stroke plug will fit in a car engine itll clean it up for reuse. I put the old 2 stroke plugs in the wood stove, they come out as clean as new.

    Mind had issues starting as well. I changed out the pilot jet from a 40 to a 42 and then played with the pilot screw. That seemed to help quite a bit.

    i bought the used carb online it came off a running bike and everything is just fine now. Starts with one kick and runs great! I have since and should of to begin with taken apart my old carb the float had a crack in it so it didn't float... that was the problem then i guess. My rear brake needs bleeding becuase its got fluid but nothing happens when I press down so I am checking that next.

    Alright now my rear brake works like it should but most of your braking power comes from the front end. The front brake reservor is all corroded and borke apart so I need a new one wheres a good place to get one?

    You can get a front brake set up from any dirtbike or even a quad. Just be careful if you get a quad set up, you don't want that extra braking power sending you over the bars.
