Big red rear diff rebuild/bearings what a pain!

Well I have successfully changed out the bearings front to rear for my 50$ big red I got. Sitting in that field for 7 years or so played heck on the bearings for sure.
Well getting bearing races out of the big red was horrible. Being that it had no bearings left they were just about welded on the tubes and what not. The pilot bearing within the diff was totally gone and the races were part of the interior wall of the diff cover. So after drilling, dremeling, getting mad, I finally got it out and installed the new one.

What I have a question is WHAT in the earth was HONDA thinking when they put that hex nut thingy on the drive shaft area of the DIFF!!! I couldnt find anythig that would work with it and when I called my local honda shop.....they said they dont have any special tool for that. AH!!!!!!!!!! So being in the south as long as I have (california wearing off lol), I was able to make something from pipes at the hardware store. I think now I need to patent it! HAHAHA

Well its a complete success with the total bearing install for the front, rear and diff. I would say to anyone with a big red, MAINTAIN those bearings! If you feel its time to change them out, PM Dads and he will send you the bearing kit you need.

YEAH! Country folk can survive! Patent, probably not, but might make them and sell them to a cycle parts outlet?

I do hope youve collected at least one Confederate flag. One on every vehicle and a biggun on a pole on the TV antenna!!

Did you consider a torch? I had the same problem with one of my trikes.

I found my Yamaha 225DR in a tool shed. It had been sitting there for almost ten years. When I dragged the spider-infested hulk out and brought it home, I yanked the rear axle assembly apart and found the diff was packed with dirt. So to get the shredded races out I used a torch to heat the tube so that the aluminum will expand. And the race popped out.

But it turned out to be a waste of time. I had to junk the big blue beast..
