    help picking a new trike

I'm fortunate enough to have a little extra money, just a little and am considering the following. A local guy has a CLEAN 1986 honda 350 x for $1500.00 original owner all stock including the tires. I bought my 250R's from him and they were quality also. or. Another guy I don't know has a pretty clean 1984 tecate for sale that looks as though it was a dune trike mostly, pretty clean and looks nice. $1300.00 for the tecate. Or. Buy a esr 310 kit for one of my R's with a atc 5 pipe and silencer and bigger carb to go with it as well as some new plastic. Both my R's are stock and pretty clean but the one I want the kit for is my daily rider so I'd like the power. I suppose I could get the esr set up at a later time since I don't plan on selling my R's. I just fell in love with that tecate though. Just open desert and dune riding for me out here. What do you think guys, There are also a couple of tri z's for sale I haven't seen yet but thought of for a second. Thanks....Dove.

My first reaction was get the 350x since it offers a very different experience from a pinger. Then I saw that you just ride dunes and "open" desert so then I was thinking it wouldn't really get used much over one of your R's. Tecates are cool but the first gen has lackluster suspension compared to what you're used to so again, it probably wouldn't steal any time from the R's (definitely a cool and powerful trike though).

In conclusion, a top end kit would probably net the most benefit for you. Since your R's are stock, you're in for an eye opening experience when you start modding them up real nice. There's a LOT of untapped power in them. Hell you don't even need a new top end. Pipe, carb, rad valve/v-force reeds and a really good port job will wake them up something fierce.

Hmm well if it were me i would go with the 350X or a tri-Z(just because they are the most beautifull trike ever) because out here no sand.. just snow so a good reliable 4 stroke is your best friend lol. But Sand duning.. Upgrading your R's would be sick, then again if you can handle a little more bumpy ride the Tecate would be a nice addition to the family. Lol i just love trikes so much i would sell my wife and children and buy then all!!! but im sure you cant do that.. lol So the Tecate or the 310 kit.

That's what my buddy said too. I also thought about a slightly wider axle also for nice sliding and stronger for jumping. That tecate just looks nice though. Thanks for being a voice of reason and reality.

Id go for the tecate or the 310 ESR kit. The tecate handles fine, look at how many races Jimmy white won on it. Granite he tricked the suspension a little, lol.

You already got 2 R's.... That 84 Tecate won't be much better..

get the X, mix it up.. if you ever go trail riding with the ute quad buddies.. you can take the X and putt along and have fun.. or simply thumb it and smoke them all.

    Get the X.

No reverse on any of the sport trikes, except the 250sx which is a four stroke. other trikes that have reverse are the atc250es bigred, kawasaki KLT 160, i THINK the Alt suzukis other than the 50, and the yamaha 225 dr

ohh and the polaris 250 r/es but there rare

Get the 310 kit then Pipe, carb, rad valve it. You might want to get some sorta arm braces though, your arms will be pulled from your sockets!

PM Mr. Sandman here on the boards, I know he has a 310 kit in his R and all he does it dunes, so ask him what he likes about it.
