my "new" 1987 big red 250

heres some pics of my "new" 1987 big red 250 that I scored from my brother in law. the only mech. problems I have found are that it needs front brake pads, the rear brake cable is starting to fray, needs a headlight, one side panel, and some rear plastic work and a seat cover. and does anyone know of the production numbers for 87 big reds, I haven't found anything, and I'd like to know.

Nice score man...just need some TLC and she'll turn out lookin good. I'm not sure of the production #'s, but there seems to be a handfull of 87's out there...I think they were the last ones to be banned...or the *.S. must have ordered more big reds right before the ban.

Nice score. It looks like it's not to bad of shape ether. That is only other tire I really want. I would settle for a 85-86 200 big red. I just want reverse.

They didn't make a 85-86 200 Big Red. The last year for the 200 Big Red was 84.

my brother in law got it from a guy who let it sit for 5 years, and he said it had that he and his kids use to ride it constantly, it runs like a new one so, I'm guessing it was never abused, but you should see the footpegs! you can tell it had a whole lot of shoes on it in its lifetime, the front spikes on the pegs are gone and wore about a 1/4 inch past the valleys in the spikes, I cleaned the 5 years worth of varnish and stale gas out of the carb, and put in some new fuel. this morning it was about 30 degees, so I wanted to see if my carb work helped, because it had a bad lean burning problem, so I pushed the choke over and used the kickstart, it fired the first kick and purred like a kitten, I actually bought it to fix up a little and make some money off of it, but my son loves to ride around in the yard with me, so I'm thinking this one might stay in the family for a while.

What do you mean by production numbers? And not too bad of a big red. How much did it set you back?

Ya 84 is what I should have said I'm a little dum some times.

You could make some $ off of it. I would keep it though, but that's me. They are nice trikes. Glad to hear your kid likes it too.

set me back a grand total of $300 for it and $1.59 for a can of carb cleaner, and $3.00 worth of freash gas, I think I came out pretty good

what I mean by prod. numbers is, how many were made in 87? from what I gather there aren't a whole lot of 87 big reds.
