    '84 R

Other than the L/C what are the main differences between the '84 and '85? Is the '85 much faster? Thanks.

No. Its still pretty fast. But it doesn't want to pull the front up as much as the L/C '85 does.

I was hoping it would be fast, I have owned machines like modded Banshee's, CRF450 dirtbikes etc. Now I'm afraid it may not have enough power to satisfy me. (I'm 6'3 250lbs too).

I dont know if I would do that. The Aircooled machines are really fast and fun. Not as much power as a modded banshee but who know's It might have the old 300r kit on it and if it does then there's a good boost in the overall performance of the machine. If the price is fair then i wouldnt give up on it. Get, ride it, see what you think about it and then start thinking about mods and upgrades. If you dont like it then sell it and make a buck.

YOu dont even need to spen a grand to make it fast. Granted its no modded 'shee and w/e, but its fast for what it is. You could put in around 500 and It would have quite a bit of kick. It will -especially with mods- pull the front end up fairly easy too. Few other differences between 84 and 85 is ride height, chain is on the opposite side between the two along with the pipe.

Ease of maintinence (sp) on an air cooleR is a breeze also

the 84's were claimed to make 28hp stock. the 85's were claimed at something around 38.

the air coolers are STOUT bikes. their a blast on dirtroads. before you decide, test ride the 84. you wont know the power until you feel it.

There is alot of power potential in the air cooled R's. They rev very high too. A pipe and larger carb will go a long way on those

You should be happy with the air R. I like my 85' better, but the 84' holds its own with a carb, pipe, reeds and a fresh bore...............
