    Hard shifting, whats the cause?

Ever since I bought my big red in the spring I have noticed that it is hard to downshift, mainly from 1st to neutral but sometimes from 2nd to 1st. Several times I will have to almost force it into neutral or give it a little gas when sifting into neutral. I have tried adjusting the clutch but that didn't seem to help. Oh yeah, the trike is a 1983 Honda 200e. I bought it from the original owner, an older guy that I know. It does not have too many hours and has spent most of its life doing yard work. It is basically stock and the engine has not been apart.

    Any Ideas?

Having to gas it to shift it does not sound like clutch dragging, usually that takes reducing engine speed or shutting the engine off. Sounds like internal transmission problems, but Id have no idea what. Since its in 1/2 gears and not the rest, that might indicate which parts to look at.

sounds to me like a bent shift fork which may or may not include broken or worn dogs on the frewheeler and or slider gears, possibly worn shift drum ,also may have a broken or bent shift detent .the detent may or may not be fixed by removing the outer case im not too familiar with the 200e but the shift fork, drum, and slider and freewheeler gears are in the motor accessable only by splitting the cases
