    85 200X Headlight Problem

Hopefully you guys can help my friend. He just bought an 85 200X and the headlight won't work at all. He replaced the bulb, but it got him nowhere.. Any common problems with the 200X that causes this? What could the problem be?

    Thanks.

Good question.. I forgot to mention that we also noticed the taillight does not work either. Is there some sort of fusable link we could pop out and replace or something? If not, could it be a stator problem? I sure hope not.

Well the only thing left in the lighting system is the coil, switch, and wires. Make sure all your connections are good, clean, and tight. If you don't have a multimeter you will need one. Check the switch to make sure it works, check the coil (white/yellow wire and ground on the left side of the engine) with the meter it should have continuity. Electrical problems can sometimes be a pain because they are so tedious to track down.

Yep. Unplug the stator and either connect an ohmmeter or a powered test light (9-12 volt) to the wire to the harness (not to the stator) and ground, turn the lights switch off and on. If nothing happens, probably bad wiring. With it running, you might read 20-30 V AC on the stator.
