    Sanblasting(need a rough estimate)

    Greetings...
Today I was changing the oil on my 200 BigRed,and gave the frame an inspection while the oil was draining...The whole frame is rotten!Luckily I have a 82 200 frame which is great condtion(apart from paint). So I plan on transplanting the motor, running gear and other thing into it.

I want to get the frame sandblasted and painted in a normal black...Could anyone give me a rough estimate of how much I should be expecting to pay??

    Any help is appreciated

Sorry I cannot give you too much info, but here is what I know.... blasting doesn't cost much at all.... I had my frame blasted and Powdercoated and it was $300, but most of that money was the powder... My father had had good luck going to local high schools, and talking to the shop teacher. I think he basically paid for the cost of the blasting media, and the instructor gave it to the kids to do as a project for class.... On the other hand, you could use some high quality paint stripper if you really wanted it done cheap.... once again, sorry I couldn't give you an exact figure... James

I would say it would take 5-10 bags of sand (it costs me $3 dollars for a 50 lb bag) if you really wanted to do it good. Then the cost of the paint (depending on what kind of paint you use). I think $50-100 would be a good ball-park estimate. But you could probably do it for around $25 and alot of time, if you catch and re-use the sand.

I just had a Tecate frame and swingarm blasted and it was 65 bucks at a commercial sandblasting shop. If you ever tried to do one with a hand blaster you would realize that 65 bucks is cheap! I then dropped both items off to be powdercoated and that was 125 bucks to coat them. That should give you a decent ballpark figure. And like thedeatons mentioned, the school shop class is a great idea.

I usually pay around 50 bucks for it. I also have them use a very fine grade sand (sugar sand) as it doesnt pit the metal bad and leaves a good etched surface for prime and paint.
