    running with a sputter

    can anyone help me? i have a '85 yamaha 185atc and am having trouble getting it to run without a sputter at idle,it loads up and when you get it up to a certain rpm it will kick in and go.it is fouling plugs when it loads up.have taken the carb apart many times to make sure nothing is clogged up,i got this bike from someone who had tinkered with it and i do not know what the plug gap is to be or how many turns out the air screw is to be either .if anyone could help me i would appreciate it alot.

    Umm...I don't believe Yamaha made a 185...closest is either a 175, or 200...

    i'm sorry maybe i dont even know what it then only know what i was told and the only thing i can find on the forks is a sticker that reads "1984 YAM29 UO 223 MOTORCYCLE" and it is shaft drive ,but still can anyone help me?

    Do me a favor...look on the frame neck, behind the forks...you will see a number, like mine is "24W-005122"...if you can get me that, I will be able to help a little bit.

    Oh, I figured it out! That "Yam29 UO" is your ID mark. 223 is your actual CC's. You have a Yamaha YTM 225DX/DR. I want one of those!

    dude i've been looking in all the wrong places ,you have given me more info in less thatn 5 hrs than i've found on my own in week's "THANK'S" now i have some where to begin other than pulling my hair. gonna give this all a try i'm sure it will help. again "THANK'S".

    took the carb to the out and checked all the jet sizes and found that the pilot jet in there is a 25 not a 20 like the info you gave me says there is to be, had to go and order the right size, will be here friday. hopefully this will solve my problem if not its a good place to start.

    Glad I could be of service. That info I gave you came from my Haynes book for YTM 60's, 125's, 175's, 200's, 225's and the YTZ250. I would suggest you order one, it's only like 16 bucks plus shipping, I believe. If you want I could give you a url for a cheap Haynes manual. E-mail me and let me know how it turns out for you when you get the new jet!
