The dot is only on one side, if you put the sprocket on backwards then the dot would be facing in and you can't see it.

yes i understand that, apparently it was on backwards because its deifently not one the one side, but after i lined up the dot with the V on the top its still not, starting or anything no sputter no back fire, i think i mist a step somewhere lining something up, its at TDC and everything lined up with the T and all that.

John is right about the timing. But don't forget to time your pulse generator, because it will basically do nothing if that is not timed correctly. To tell if the cam lobes are facing down pull off the rocker arm caps and see if there is any play in the rocker arms. If there is your set, if not and the flywheel is lined up at TDC the you'll have to take your cam chain and spin the cam 180 degrees but don't move your flywheel. Hope that helps.

I was having the same timing problem as peeweesp and came across this thread which helped me solve my problem. I have an '86 trx 125 engine stuffed into a little atc70 that needed some gaskets replaced. Long story short, it's running again. The lobes on the cam should, i would say, point towards the piston??? my little trike's engine is horizontal. Thanks to those who gave input on this thread.
