people who have shipped rear fenders, help me out.

Ok I need to ship some rear 200x fenders to Cali. The problem is is that the usps website qouted me 27 bucks or something like that, I go to ship them today and 113 bucks!! Is there a cheaper place to ship these things or what? I went to UPS and it was 78 bucks so I don't know what to do. Anyhelp is great

The trick is to make the box as small as you can. I shipped rear fenders before and they are borderline one being an oversized package. If it is oversized then the price jumps way up. I had to cut down the box I sent sme YTM200 fenders in twice before I got it under the size limit for UPS.

What I did was took foam wrap and wrapped them all up and then shrinked wrapped them. So they said that was a "non-standard packaging" or something like that so that probably jacked the price way up and they were oversize.

When I recieved my fenders from where I ordered them, all they had done was put some small pieces of styrofoam around the edges, and then wrapped it in a ton of seran wrap. It got to me just fine.

^He beat me to it. But the site I ordered them from only charged me like $25 dollars shipping or something like that.

I made a box for the fenders I sent out, the YTM box ended up being a triangle, I bet they had fun packing that in the truck .

There are 3 degrees of oversize. Most ATV fenders are oversize 2, but get the package slightly too big and it jumps to oversize 3 where the cost triples or quadruples. Also, youll find that UPS usually has the best domestic rates for large ground packages. Also, non standard packaging adds $5, and special handling adds another $5.

I would try fedex ground. I use them all the time and it seems the larger the box the better deal you get besides UPS and the other groups.

haha, I had to make sure I order some X-large pizzas for that!

I brought the swinger and a few other parts with me to college to sell or powder coat. When I said I would sell the swinger I forgot I didn't have any boxes yet but in the corner of the kitchen there are always half a dozen pizza boxes (I share a house w/ 6 other guys) so I made do .

Fed ex groung all the way. I have shipped many sets, make the box as small as humanly posible Still considered oversized, but far more economical than ups. Honestly I don't see how ups is still in business, there prices are so much more higher than fed ex and DHL.

I will give Fedex a shout tonight. When I got my Tecate fenders they just had card board taped to them and they were all right so I will just go that route. I'll find out what happens tomorrow.

I work for a shipping company here in canada.. it goes like this:

    L x W x H ( in inches ) / 1728

    x 10 = Ground weight

    x 15 = if shipped air.

    ex:

    a box measureing 24 x 36 x 12 and weighs 10 lbs.

    24 x 36 x 12 = 10368

    10368 / 1728 = 6

    6 x 10 = 60 lbs worth of freight charge.

and if it was to be shipped air.

    6 x 15 = 90 lbs. worth.

This is because.. some people like to ship light weight boxes that take alot of room on the truck and at a certain point.. it costs the shipping company too much to carry it.. so they calculate " Cubic Weight ".

    sucks heh.
