    Expensive lessons

So who here has ever let a "friend" ride their ATC's and said "friend" ended up breaking something on it - ie wrecking it. This has happened to me too many times to remember, and I really don't care to think about it, but I think I am done letting "friends" ride my trikes. Too many OEM parts have gotten ruined that are almost un-replaceable! Then you have to shop ebay and pay a rediculous price for OEM, meanwhile the friend probably thinks nothing of it, because it's "just an old 3 wheeler".

Steam may be coming out of my ears right now

"Freinds" can ride the beaters at my house. I think nice OEM rigs are magnets for stupid accidents.

All my friends know how much my trike means to me.. and the only one's i let ride know how to ride them.. and respect them.

Accidents happen, that's a fact of life.. if you put a newbie on a trike. it's YOUR responsibility to tell them how to ride it and make the point clear not to yahoo it .. take it easy and learn slowly.

I don't dare let newcomers on my SX for that exact reason mentioned in your post.. i can't afford to fix their mistakes.. and that's that.

Yeah, its a bad idea. In many cases it can ruin friendships. I feel if they damage something, they need to pay to repair or replace it. I would do the same. I had a neighbor hit my expedition with my old BigRed before the restore. $500 damage, and has hated us ever since. Its not worth it.

I actually got sick of people riding mine. So I bought a 85 xr200r to use as a buddy bike. "It was only 150 so I was like what the heck". Well they have beat the crap out of it. Then more people starting comming with us. So I had to buy another 200x. This one is mine and I dont think that Im ganna let anyone ride it. Except for a select few. I figure Im not being mean by not letting them ride the new one. Cause I have 2 other bikes that they can ride. This is the best way to get poeple into the sport I think. Thats how my friend got me into it. He has 2 buddy bikes.

6 years ago I put pyschoX's mojave in a pond and then about a month later I rolled it. Unfortunatly it got stolen about a month after that. He was really cool about it and didn't get real mad. I'm sorry Andrew!!

because it's "just an old 3 wheeler".
That right there is the crux of the problem. That attitude is almost universal.
I don't have that problem. All my friends have four-wheelers and laugh when i ask them if they want to try out my trike.
    Fine with me!

I don't let newbies ride my trikes but I don't have a problem letting experienced people take a spin on the R to check it out. Hell I usually encourage it. I guess I get a kick out of the smile on their face when they get back.

I'd love to have a quad to use as a buddy bike though. A blaster or a 400ex or something.

I agree. best way to ruin a friendship.

I have a friend that has an old Big Red that he got new. Now he rides a quad and lets others ride / borrow the trike. Now these guys are hunters, not riders per sey.

He looks disgusted everytime he looks at that old trike. People have ripped the fenders off and everything else. I think it is best not to let folks borrow your stuff unless you know they care.

Really it is a matter of respect. If they don't respect your stuff, then they really don't respect you.

I had a friend once "steal" my tri Z and break the rear grab bar. And I had to pay for it!
He is my really good friend though so it was cool, not cool how he took my Z without asking me.
