Well, I take a different tack. I have 4 friends that keep a total of 6 of my bikes at their places. 5 trikes and a quad. They keep them in good shape and fix what they break. If they do not fix them they can't ride. I was blessed with a pile of trikes, so I let other people use them. It helps me keep the pile of them running. At a ride I jump on what I want and they ride the rest.
    Trikes: Cagiva 200, 85? Tiger 250,(2)84 200x's , (3)86 200x's, 87 200x, (5)85 350x's, (2)86 350x's, (2)85 250r's, 86 Tecate, (3) 85 250sx's Restoring: 83 200x, 86 250sx. Too many utility trikes to list.

    hmm

I had a One Yearold Mojave and I lived in the city so I had to truck it places, didnt ride as much as if I was in the country.
Let a friend ride it we took trip down state to visit our families. We had great trails down there and hid brother had a dirt bike. Well I was in the process of selling it and I had it up there to like $7-8 hundred more than I owed on it.
I let nim ride it so he could go for aride with his brother. It was their 1st maiden voyage together. Any how his litttle banged through all the gears and left the Little Mojave in its dust. So my buddies wide open and out of the dust his Brother is Parked in the middle of the trail. He bailedoff the ledge into the trees. Moshed the quad up good but she was tough I straightened the bars andsoldit for $100 orw than I owed on her.

Ill let people ridemy Honda 125 M (when I find good forks for her)
No one will probably ride my Tecate unless its in a straight lineand they have a toy allso just in case.

Same for the 200X My friends can Only afford the bar on Fri. Night
I figure it might make em get amachineso we could ride. Ive been pushingsomeofmy buddies. New SUnbeam Keyboard Space Bar is screwed. It Lights up though

I just let those ride that respect em, and are responsible enough and have the funds to fix them if they damage them.

I've never had anything broken when someone else rode, but it sure would be a bad situation when it does. Sure wouldn't want it to be a close friend or family, cause I would have a VERY hard time getting over it. The R and ATP are the ones I'm the most picky about. I don't mind much bout the S and EX.

I'd let you take the R for a spin. Most people bring it back pretty quick because they can't keep the front end down though. I have trouble with that part myself.

Yep, been there done that. At the time, I didn't have that much time, effort, & money into making my bike look nice, so I wasn't overly concerned when my friend flipped it. He was going fairly slow, slidding it around a corner when it hooked up & tossed his a##! He hung on & stayed with the bike all the way. When the dust cleared, he was still sitting down on it in a riding position, except he was upside down on the ground, with the bike on top of him. He said he didn't want to let go & risk damaging the bike, so he held on to protect it. It came out fairly unscathed, but the front fender was cracked right underneath the tripleclamp. I was more worried about his injuries (dirt embedded in bleeding scratches) than my bike's. He saw the cracked fender & appoligized quite a bit. I told him I would hotmelt glue it, and it would be good to go. I did, and it was. About a month later, he surprised me with a used front fender, in good condition. What a nice guy!

I think you have illustrated the basic element of this issue. You let a FRIEND ride your bike. Most people I encounter do not differentiate between 'friends' and 'people they happen to know and get along with ok'. You were worried about him, and he was worried about your property that you had entrusted to him.

I figure a guy is lucky if he has one good friend in his lifetime. A fellow might know a whole bunch of people that he has a great time with, but he should not mistake them for friends. The very moment that it becomes inconvenient for them to associate with him, ie. wrecked his trike, they will be gone. A friend will still be there.

A good indicator of someone who is NOT your friend is someone who says things like,"Dude, I thought we were friends" when you hesitate to let them ride your trike. This is someone who is using your illusion of a friendship to manipulate you. Friends do not have to be bribed or paid for their friendship.

Sorry to be preachy, but it took me a few decades to figure that out. I thought I might pass it on and save some of you younger gentlemen a few years of pain.

I let my friends ride bikes that are POS's. Like the 200s (sold) and my 86 200x before i started the project. But me being freshamn in high school, most people are immature and ride quads..and they cant do that well. Beau Kipker (bkipker2009) is the exception...he is my triker friend and he is getting more experiance with trikes form me and him with his 250r..

I'd most likely be better off letting other people ride my trikes and keeping me off of it. Espcially when cold beer, nighttime and big hillclimbs are involved
