Making a swingarm, have a couple of questions for you guys

Ok, I am building a swing arm fro my 85 Tecate and I was wondering what should I use? I know chromoly is increadibly strong and light but what about aluminum? What thickness should I use for either the chromoly or aluminum! Also what grade? I think I need to say what kind of riding I do also, anything from cruising around the house to mx. Anyhelp would be great as I am going to try to work on this here in the next couple of weeks. Thanks

To be honest I've never looked into aluminum. Sorry. If I was going aluminum tho I'd start by going down to my machinist and seeing how much the piviot and carrier housing was going to cost to get made. That's going to be one of your most expensive parts of this deal.

The Tecate carrier is seperate from the swingarm like the Tri-Z so thats not necessary.

Yep carrier is seperate, not like those goofy hondas The pivot points that the swingarm bolt goes through is what you are talking about right oldschoolin? That should just be a piece of tubing welded into place correct?

90nut, if I had my Champion swingarm money back I'd buy a updated swingarm from osin86. That way I could run some sweet TRX 400EX gear on my T3 like the aftermarket carriers, axles, brakes...

I know, I should have worded that different but there's still some carrier parts there that could benifit from proper machine tools IMO.

I should be able to machine the parts I need with my buddy's lathe, mill and if it comes down to it his neighbor has a CNC machine he can use. On second thought it is not a bad idea to use the honda rear carrier set up. Oldschoolin' I am going to hit up you web site and take a look around.

Only down side I can see with the updated rear carrier is the added cost for the 400ex stuff.
