    85 250es starter problems (wire)?

I've only had the bike a couple weeks and its stored at the inlaws. I was out today trying to figure out why the starter didn't work. I think i am missing a wire. I Know there is a wire that goes to the starter but where does it come from? Is it direct from the silinoid. I have 1 wire going to the silinoid but thats it nothing going to the starter.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

    1 wire only Steve

only 1 wire Steve ,,, the hot wire coming from the selonoid. Ground is made from a grounding engine case wire just behind (and to the right) of the rear of the starter (black).
Pushing the starter engage button ,,,, wiggle/wrench the hot wire on top of the starter. I have a bigred with that problem (loose connection in the starter).
Hope that is all it is ,,,, john

John is right on the wiring. If you find your starter still dosen't work, the brushes are probably bad in the starter. I had to rebuild 2 of them this summer. The brush kit sells for about 35 bucks.

Will it start manually? If it does all the main wiring is fine and getting fire to the plug.

Will the starter make any noise, specifically does it click when you hit the starter button?

Like already stated brushes are the first thing I'd think of, they are fairly simple to swap out and your good as new, unless it's the selenoid itself.

Yes it does kick start. No the "starter" does not make any sounds at all but the silinoid clicks when i push the button. I AM missing the wire from the silinoid to the starter. Is it just a straight wire from the silinoid to the starter or does it connect to something else first?

    You are correct Steve

Yes ,,, right from the selinoid to starter. You should be able to fab up something for temporary to see if it works okay.
