    Engine case number means what?

    Well I am trying to finde out what the case number means on the side of the engine. I have a few engines and I know 2 are 200x with the code TB05E- and then the number but I also have one that looks the same but has the code
    MD02E- and then the number. Anyone know how to decode them if there is a way? Thanks

    To my knowledge there really isn't a way to decode the motors without a Honda Identification manual. But your in luck here. I have one and keep it close to the computer. I took a W.A.G. and actually came up with a model for you. The MD02E was used in the XL185s dirtbike. For the year you need the rest of the numbers:
    1980 = MD02E-5000003~
    1981 = MD02E-5200002~
    1982 = MD02E-5300003~
    1983 = MD02E-5400006~

    I too a'm looking for some help to find out what a motor came out of. In your post you stated that the code TB05E- is a 200x. The motor I need help with has that same code number on the case TB05E-6305257. Do you know if all the 200x's had that same code number? That would answer part of my request. Hope it is and I'm also looking for a year. (need to buy some parts for it) Thanks Big D.
