bigred1, Can you post some Bigger pictures? Try making them as big as possible. The small pictures don't help me any.

If you have the pictures saved on your computer full sized try to upload them like they are. If it shows them as being too big then try to make them just alittle smaller and save. Then try uploading them again. Once you figure out the aprox size you can resize the others and upload them.

The forums program makes the thumbnail views, you don't need to make them that small.

Does the key on your crankshaft match the slot size----Is the crank bolt loose after it breaks---???
That looks like stress cracking from excessive vibration.

I have to agree with unclediezel about it looking like stress fatige. i've worked as a welder / machinist for 15 yrs and have seen things break in all sorts of ways. something is causing it you need to find it and fix it otherwise it'll keep happening.
I wish i was more familiar with your machine it would give me more insight on what is happening and help me help you. how much end play is there in your crank? whats on the other end of the crank if any thing? could a bearing going south maybe be at fault? Theres alot of variables to look at , It could even be a combination of several things. I'll check back tomarrow night to see if you found anything and maybe I'll think of something else that might help too by then.

just went out to look at it I don't have rotor/fly wheel off right now but I gave it a wiggle it seems nice and tight no movement or slop, tomarrow I will try to get a few more pics if it still light out when I get home from work. if it was excess vibration shouldn't I have been able to fill it while riding?

    Not always------

Any "CARNAGE "on the coils? Or the magnets?

Did you have the flywheel bolt removed when you tried to remove the side cover ( if you are the one that removed it )? I ask this because I have seen this type of damge before. To me it looks like someone tried to pry the cover off without the flywheel bolt removed. This is a BIG NO, NO.

The confimation of this can be found in Unclediezel's last reply here. Is there any damage to the flywheel or the coils themselves?

    My questions:
    Did the motor still run?
Why was the side case removed?
I ask the last 2 questions because if the coils are good you should only need the stator plate. I think I actually have a good bare stator plate. If I do I would sell it for $8.50 SHIPPED!

I was on level ground in third, rpms not that high, when it felt and sounded like engine met unusual resistance and rear wheels stopped turning and engine died at relatively the same time. I tryed electric start sounded rough barely could turn engine over so I tryed recoil pulled twice both times real stiff then not at all. Not knowing what it could be I decided to open it up. I pulled recoil housing off removed flywheel bolt then took off stator housingnothing seemed tight but when inspected I noticed the cracks in plate I have not noticed anything else unusal no loose parts or debris other tan little tiny part of plate that broke off.
