New to the Site! YTM225 Questions

    Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum and would just like to introduce myself and my project.
I just recently purchased a 83 or 84 Yamaha TRI-MOTO 225DX. It is in non-running condition, but was for the most part complete. I thought it was a good deal at $150.

So far I have determined that the swing arm will need new bearings and the starter motor will need to be replaced. Also a couple small pieces need to be replaced on the recoil. I am familiar with bike bandit and ebay for finding these odds and ends. I have also ordered a manual to help me along the way.

What I would like is for other members who own this type of trike to chime in herre and possibly give me some advise or opinions regarding the 225DX.

    Couple of my questions are:
    What should the compression be?

How can I tell the exact year of the trike (sticker on the frame says 83' could it be a 84' model though?)

    Typical problems with this model?

    General maintenance tips.

I am keeping a journal along with the restoration so I hope to share my knoweldge as I learn.

    Thanks!

Well whatever year it says on the neck stem is probably right. there pretty simple machines. i got mine for a 100$ missing quite a few things and not running. but i got it running in an hour. then i bought the rest of the parts i needed of these good board members, i actually got my front fender form Edog. i would say change oils, lube parts, thats about it. so far the worst problem i had with mine is burn my clutch out from doing a brake stand burn out. if your year is right the specs says the compression ratio is 8.8 to1................heres a pic of mine after some things i did.

    Thanks traxxasx,

So far I like the way this machine is put together. Removal of the plastics was so easy a child could do it. Also I can actally get my hands in there to wrench on things. Unlike my sons 84 lt50 quad.

Could anyone describe the procedure for setting the valves. I have a manual on order, but I am just itching to work on it.

Tri-Moto-Man, I am listing a bunch of YTM225 parts on Ebay Friday ( they start listing around 6:30PM EST ). I start most of my auctions at $9.99 or less.

If I had my manual I would scan some pages for you, but I loaned it out and haven't recieved it back yet.
