Question Strange knocking in my 90 motor

i have a 1971 atc 90, and this problem i am having has been getting worse and worse. It is a knocking noise located by the cam and valve assembly. It gets worse when i shift gears. But when i rev it in nutrual it is fine no knocking!! That would lead me to assume something is wrong with the trans. Keep in mind shifting is perfect, but the noise is very strong up above the pistion. Anybody got any ideas? thanks eric

Well I am certainlly no expert, but it sounds as if you cam or top end is starving for oil? Maybe an oil pump or better yet how is the oil level when was the last time it was checked or changed? Maybe the jornal were you cam rides is worn out causing it to move around a bit. Just a uneducated guess.
