high octane is not for giving a stock r a little extra kick it is for high compression engines to overcome detonation and run right. if anything you will lose power due to the higher octane burning slower and more completly the only gain would be a cleaner engine.

I know this is a little off the subject, but will AV gas, or racegas run in my stock Foreman 450S? (100LL or whatever?) What if it had a high comp. piston? (10:1? 11:1?) I was just wondering because I plan to modfiy it some (or leave it stock) and do some XC or Hare scrambles and I have no experience w/ anything but pump gas.
    Anyone? Come on now :?

I am at 10:1 on my 350x and it actually is a bit crisper on 93 Unleaded than it is on VP C-12. I would say if you go 11:1 run AVGAS. I used to run it in my R when I first bought the trike because back then NY/NJ had oxygenated fuel and I don't want that crap in my tank.

Thats cool. I might try it this summer. Where do you get it...the airport?

Yeah, depending on how your local airpoirt is set up you may be able to just go there 24/7 with a credit card and pay at the pump. Obviously you don't want to go to JFK airport or a major one like that, you want one of those small mom & pop types that have prop planes. You'll want the 100LL fuel. Keep in mind that fuel at the local gas station is rated differently from aviation fuel and 100 octane AvGas is really about 98 octane.

MAKE SURE THE AIRPORT DOES NOT SELL YOU JET FUEL. I watched a guy kill a $7,000 engine in a bad ass s-10. He was in a pinch and had to have high octane gas right away (it was to go to woodward of course). They sold him jet fuel, not gas for prop planes and it trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro the thing royally. By the end of the night the thing was dead. It kept running worse and worse untill it finally died. They pulled the motor, and the jet fuel got crusty and hard like and just blocked intake and exhaust passages, and stuffed cylinders full of this substance. The bores were trashed, pistons trashed, as for the rest of the motor i don't know, but the guy could not get across well enough how much it messed the engine up.

My 250R has run exclusivly on a mixture of AV-Gas and Motul 800synthetic oil. It burns so clean. The most important part of AV-Gas is that it has cooling agents in it that lower the cylinder head temp. This cooling agent is what prevents pre-detonation. do not put it in a new vehicle with a catalytic converter. The lead will screw up your 02 sensor on computer controlled cars. Av-Gas also burns slower than lower octane fuel so the timing can be advanced. It is designed for use in 4 stroke air cooled engines. It makes the 86 350x come to life.and run cooler. The lead also keeps carbon deposits to a minimum. RUN IT........

You can't run them in newer vehicles because it plugs the cat's, o2 sensor, messes with the injectors also if I'm not mistaken. The ERG valve I believe will get messed up also, lets not forget the good ole AIR pump also.

I am no expert but jet fuel is basically kerosene, someone is yankin' your chian. I think if you could build a V-8 S-10 you'd notice that your "gas" stunk like kerosene, no? Not to mention if my 330r started running bad I would stop riding and find out why and I have a heckuva lot less that $7,000 wrapped up in that motor. It defintely sounds to me like someone is pulling your leg bro.
