    200x Rebuild Questions

I am completely going through my 200x. I have to tear it down to replace the frame. My motor has some annoying ticking going on. I am going to replace the rockers and cam(already bought). I will also go ahead and replace the cam chain and guides. This should do away with any valve train noise. The valves are under 2 years old, and the piston rings are about a year old. My question is, should I go ahead and bore the jug and buy a new piston and rings, and replace the valves? I'm tempted to since I will have the whole top end taken apart. Would you guys go ahead with this, or is it a waste of money. My 200x doesn't smoke, except sometimes a little when first started. Is this normal? Also it has plenty of power. Thanks, Adam.

    Thumbs up

If i were doing what you're doing I would just change the time chain because, when a ticking just appears it usually means that the time chain is stretched. So i ya want to save your money just try that

Allso, replace your valve guide oil seals. That may be why when you first start it it smokes a bit.

The reason I am replacing the cam and rocker is because I believe I damaged them. The ticking started when I first bought the trike. I think I adjusted the valves wrong the first time. I was a newb then, and wasn't sure about top dead center. I believe I set them incorrectly so when finished adjusting the ticking was much worse. I am sure I damaged the cam or rockers. I have since done it correctly and the noise is not near as bad, but figured I would go ahead and get rid of it while the motor is out. I got a new OEM cam and Rockers for 70 bucks. The bike still has full power though. I haven't pulled the head yet to inspect anything.

Where would I get these? Does a top end gasket kit come with them?

The full topend rebuild comes with them, or maybey someone on here has some. All they are is green plastic seals with springs at the base. What are you gaping your valves at, and what plug are you using??

Not sure what plug, it is the one it came with. I am gaping the valves at .003.

What else could I have damaged by adjusting the valves incorrectly?

If you gapped them too much, you could have gotten a melted/damaged valve. If you gapped them too little, pretty much nothing, just runs bad and poor power.

Have you tried adjusting the cam chain?
If thers slack on that, it could make some engine noise.
    Or are those adjusters automatic?

Yes I adjusted the cam chain when I did the valves.
