    ATC 70 restoration ::UPDATED::

    I got this 70 for free from a dude who was tossing it at the dump. I have rebuilt the top end, stripped it down and painted it all, put a SuperTrap on, getting a throttle soon and still have to re-do the seat. I am going to leave the front fender off and leave the cut rears on until I want to get a new full set. Anyone have ideas about how to re-stuff the seat and cover it under a tight budget?

    looks real nice. I don;t know of anyway to cheaply restuff the seat that would be real good. I suppose you could get a cover and put it most of the way on and just stuff it with pillow stuffing. looks better then mine, Im in the process of completeing one as well.

    That is sweet! I like to hear stories where guys salvage a trike instead of it going to the graveyard. My next resto is gonna be a 70 for my son.

    Lookin good! For seat for the best option is probably the new foam on ebay. You can also get a block of foam from a fabric shop; I plan on doing that for my motorcycle this spring so I can have a custom seat. I don't know if it will be much cheaper then the ebay foam for you though and definitely not as easy.

    Nice job. I've done a couple 70's myself. Try DrATV for your parts.

    Pismorat, Since you are recycling this 70, just find an old unwanted seat cushion. If it is thicker than what you think the seat foam should be, all the better as it will give you extra cushion when you are riding, helpful with the hardtail trikes. A really sharp knife or an electric carving knife believe it or not is about the best way to cut the seat foam. Take your time, and it will look as nice as the rest of your trike. A word of advice, don't use the ol' ladys' favorite seat cushion off the good couch, even if it does have real high density foam (real cushiony).....been there, done that, have the t-shirt and the divorce decree.

    Very Nice!!!!!!!!!

    Great progress so far. Be sure to keep the pics coming. Thought of any options for your wheels? I chose to do this setup: 8 by 6 inch douglass black labels with nankang 16 x 6.5 x 8 knobbies. Good luck with yours

    Those are sweet wheels. I was going to leave the stockers on for a while until I can afford something else...they do leak though so once it is rideable I'll throw some stop-leak in them just to seal them up. Hopefully it'll be running this weekend, waiting for the throttle to arrive and have to make an air cleaner setup. Thanks for the comments!

    Here's what I did for the air filter since I had nothing but the box from the stock setup. Took a Spectre 1.25" breather and drilled it out to allow for more air flow and connected it to the carb via radiator hose. Don't know if I'll oil it or not yet, but it should do the trick.
