    ALT125 shifting problem

Well after a whole year my uncle finally gave my grandpa back his ALT because he was tired of working on it. Got it running like a champ but it will only shift once, and not go any farther. My uncle thinks the shifting fork is bent and thats why it does that, which he said would require splitting the motor again. Any ideas on the problem or does that explanation sound plausable?

Are you shifting it right? Mine has weird gear pattern. Its an 84 I think. Granny gear is one up, then the rest are down, and you have to shift twice to get past neutral from granny gear.

Ok I just got back from riding it to make sure I knew how it shifted.

Nuetral is all the way up. I will go to first and the lever will stick so you just have to pick it up and its in first. Then you shift down and there is nothing there. Thats the shifting issue.
