200X clutch wont always pull

I have 1984 200X that usually runs and rides fine but once in a while after going through a few gears, the clutch wont pull in (its not the cable). If I stop, let the atc stall, put the ATC in neutral, then restart it, the clutch works fine again. Anyone have any idea why this happens? I appreciate any help you can give. /// also, the atc is still rideable when the lever wont pull. I can still shift up and down and sometimes, if i go into neutral and coast, I can pull the clutch in and it funtions normally again. The odd thing is one day it will happen only a few times, another day it happens several times.
