Good looking Tecate. It has 86/87 rear fenders mounted which looks good.

The 83/84 KX cylinder fits, 5hp bolt on mod. Must use the KX piston, rings and small parts. The 83/84 KX250 stator/flywheel and CDI swap to give faster and higher revs. Also I believe the KX pipe fits. Sectional pipes are the best for it. An extended swingarm is a must if your looking to get more hp then stock. Yamaha Raptor shock is basicly bolt on, wheel pattern is 4/156 but the 84 Tecate hubs fit and so that you can run 8 inch wheels. The 86/87 Tecate rear carrier bolts on and gives you a wider axle but you must run the complete 86/87 rear. Tons of potential, a very fast bike in any regard with some mods and quicker then the 85 R through the gears with the right rider. Scoop it up and start modding. You won't be dissapointed.

1984 had a drum, upgraded to the disc in 85 as well as a bigger 34 mil carb. Not powervalved therefore has a real hard hitting powerband.

i would not be betting on that 85r thing. if youa re a good rider and he is a bad rider then maybe.

i have owned them all and stock for stock the r will kill it. its just the truth.

the kx tranny will also fit it. i had a complete kx engine in my 85 and it was a blast.

Worthwhile item to pick up, rare but not cheap. Maybe sell a Tri-z for it.

ouch on the price, i have been eyeing that swnger for a while now. as far as this 250r killing the t3, not exactly. i do agree the with the right rider theory, but that goes for any bike really. but i know i have taken on plenty of r's with my old t-3 and walked away more then a few times. and that bike was basically stock except for tires, airfilter, and pipe. cant wait to get my new project done, but shes gonna be far from stock this time. anyways, 85 t-3s biggest down fall was the stator and flywheel, but now it is parts availiblity. i have got alot of parts off ebay, and off bikebandit, but it seems like they are getting harder and harder to find, and more of the parts are being discontinued. aside from that, i love em.

Well I have a link to the thread were I burned another member with facts, and I will quote my post.

The 84/85 Tecate agian.....Is quicker than the liquid 250r's, and in this link and my post that I quoted you will see the truth, from people who owned both that are STOCK. And lastly I have not lost a race to a atc250R yet, at the rampage coming up, I gurantee you dunerash's mugen jug R will walk past me, as well as some of the ESR bikes. GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE.

The tecate will out accelerate a 250R because it is geared lowered, thats why the 250R will out run the first generation Tecate as far as top speed. Like I said, ill find a way to save this thread and come June for the trike rampage, Ill make sure we get a video of the race between my Tecate and whoever else's 250R. And yes I have ridden both machines and my Tecate pulled harder than Blazerone22's 85 250R.

Did a little more resaerch and Whitman raced an 85 with his 86

Now if a 86 Tecate will beat a 250R what does that lead you to belive if the 85 Tecate was neck and neck with the 86.

    Jenndnn3's statement from ORG.

    What I said.

I own both the 85 250r and the 85 tecate. Now I primarly ride the 250r, It is my baby. But with that being said (when the green beast is running correctly) it out runs my 85 250r. It is definatly quicker. I would almost say pretty much through the gears.

Reliabilty, I dunno, It is 20 years old engine that seems to be strong, the thing I have most issues with and those of us who mess with it in Florence, is this carb. I think it could use a different carb or I need some serious lessons on it. But in all honesty I am looking to get rid of it, so doesnt truley matter huh.

Looks, well we all know which one is a much better looking trike lol.

Tho the 86-87 is a vast improvement.

Thats right, straight from a factory honda rider's mouth. He did how ever mention the superior power band and suspesion the Honda's had, I just didnt quote it.

    03Orangeshee-

www.tecateconnection.com has some hot parts for the first generation Tecate, cool heads.....300 or a 330 kits, and a bunch of other stock replacement to performance parts. Really, if you know where to look parts arnt to hard to find for these old POS's, lmao.
