    Need Help

    85 250sx

OK - well the Timing Hole cap is stripped and I can not unscrew it. Any ideas of getting this off? Since I can't get it, is there a way to know where the TDC is?

Also I have the covers off and just don't know where to put the feeler gauge. The picture on the manual looks like it is under the rocker arm - is this the case? If so it looks like mine has a huge gap.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Got the timing cap off - looks like hell - does anybody have an extra one? Now I lined everything up for th TDC. Just need to know exactly where the feeler gauge goes to measure the distance.

The feeler gauge should go under the rocker screw and on top of the valve. I have to pull the stator side of the motor off on my 200x to see the flywheel, but your motor looks a little more complicated. I also cannot get the small cap off, its on too tight. The side cover on my motor comes off with just 4 bolts.

So the feeler gauge goes under "5" and above number "14"?

If this is the case - it looks like my gap there is 1/2 inch +. Thats why I feel I am not doing something correctly.

the feeler gauge goes under the screw(adjuster) in the rocker arm. Also if you need a new timing hole plug, order one of a XR dirt bike (i do not remeber the model XR250?) they are hex headed an use an allen wrench instead of the large screwdriver. This works much better.

In the pic above, the ajuster screw is 15, and the valve is 9. The feeler gauge goes between the lower end of the adjuster (15) and the end of the valve (9)

The part numbers for the caps with the hex hole instead of the slot are:

    Big Cap = 90087-HB5-000
    Little Cap = 90084-MN8-010

Those are the part numbers used on a 86/87 200x, they work for 350X and 250sx
