250r clutch basket questions

well i decided to buy a billet basket.but they don't come with the gear.it says the hardware is included to attach the old gear to the new basket.has anyone done this?

also,how do you get the old basket off?i tried to hold it with a screw driver and use the impact wrench,no give.

which way do the threads go,left,or right?thanks guys

You need one of these to hold the basket in place. I had no luck with an impact wrench so I bought one a while back. I haven't used it yet but it looks like it would do the trick.

brandon,put a penny between the crank gear and clutch drive gear to stop the engine from spinnin.then use a good impact.the penny will bind up the engine from spinnin over,but will not damage your gears.that will get the basket off.then you will have to flip the basket over and use a drill or flat grinder and grind off the rivet heads of the gear. then you will have to use a punch to drive out the old rivets.then transfer the gear to the new basket and use red loctite on the new bolts they give you.hope that helps.just make sure when using the penny,that you dont hold it in there with your fingers.use a pair of pliers to hold the penny till there is pressure on it. or you could end up hurting your hand and use safety glasses.sometimes metal chips from your trans will blow around while using the impact.

Yep. I just checked motion pro's website. I can get you that tool for $22.00 out the door. It lists for $31.00 on their site. Plus shipping. Same for you Todd.

You know...after reading this over again carefully, I realize where I made my mistake.

I was trying to remove the basket nut AFTER I had removed all of the clutch disks. I see now how the penny trick would work, as long as you use the clutch disks to hold the outer and inner basket sections together. Wow...feeling pretty stupid right about now. That simple mistake cost me $60.
