I must disagree with you, there are 87 ATCs out there. Honda sold the 200x, the 250sx, and the 250es (big red) as 1987 model trikes in the USA. I own a 87 big red and a 87 200x. There are pictures of a 88 big red from down under.
    ATCnut

    82 185s - sold
    83 200x (hopped up)
    84 200x (stock)
84 70 (lost this one to the DMV)
85 70 (soon to have lights, a foot brake, and CDI ignition)
    84 200es (parts trike) - sold
    85 350X (the best)
85 350X (siezed motor, dream of a poweroll kit someday)
85 250sx (frame was trash, got parted out)
    86 250sx (the tractor)
    86 250sx (a nicer tractor)
86 250sx (an even nicer tractor)
87 200x (parts trike, its really rough, a dog was chewing on it for a while)
87 250es Big Red (the tank!!)

Well the 86 has 6 gears Vrs the 83-85's 5 gears, BUT the parts are much harder to get than for a 83-85. IF it were me i would get the 200x, fixing machines can get to be pretty hairy, expescally if its not all thats wrong with it and you just dont know...

There is a really nice 87 200x on ebay right now, just search honda 200x and then powersports, there are only a few complete 200x's on ebay at the moment.

Mike at Vintage has a 1987 200X as his personal trailbike. It is on his website... If anyone in the US would know an 87, it would be him, seeing as how he restores for Honda Japan's Collection Hall.... 87s exist, end of story... haven't we been here before?

The 1987 250R and 350X are just urban legends. I don't think any were ever made except prototypes you see in pictures. There's quite a few 1987 200x's out there along with Big Reds and 250sx although none are any different from 1986 other than small details (mostly cosmetic but the 1987 200x does have a keyed ignition and dashboard). Common knowledge around here really.

    That makes sense.

1987 models were manufactured in 1986 for the new year thus making it an 1986 in my book because that is the TRUE year it was built.

Wrong! They made Big Reds, 250sx, 200x, 125m and I think a couple more in 87. I have personally ridden an 87 200x myself. The biggest diferences between the 86 and 87 200x are the keyed ignition, white tank shrouds, different decals and the 87's had a red swingarm as opposed to the 86's silver.

I should have rephrased that. 250R's and 350x's were never made.
