    350x engine mod questions

Who makes a good performance cam for a 350x? Also when rebuilding the engine, what is a good comp. ratio to run? I saw a 10.25:1 piston on ebay. Is anyone using this piston? How much harder is the engine to kick over than stock? Thanks a lot.

Webcams makes one 2 diffrent ones. one for bottom end power, one for top end. The big diffrence between the 10.25:1 and 12:1 is the 12 gives ALOT more power. But you should run 110 (could probably get away with 91 but 110 to be safe) with the 12:1 piston. If your decompression works properly it shouldnt be that much harder to kick over. The main thing is to get it jetted correctly so you dont have to keep kicking it. If it starts first kick its no biggie.

When rebuilding, should I use honda oem gaskets, or do you know of a good aftermarket set? Thanks again.

I'd go with a 10:1 or 10.8:1, or somewhere in between. It will give you a good power increase, and you can still run 93 octane pump gas. It won't adversely affect engine reliability/longevity either. The 12:1 setup is nasty. It requires you to always run race gas. Does JE make a piston for it? Some of my buddies and I run them in our 400EXs (10.8:1), and they are great! Tons of hours of all-out, full bore running and never had a problem. Use Viton valve seals (they seem to hold up better) and OEM gaskets. THe OE gaskets are the best quality, but also the most expensive. You will need gasket kit "A", there should be a part # for it, inlcludes everything you need to reseal the top end. As far as a cam, not sure what's available but check with hotcams. I run a stage 1 hotcam in the 400. It can be used with the stock valve springs. The nastier cams usually only run well in the higher RPMs, and require stiffer valve springs.

According to the hotcams website, they don't make a 350x cam. Thanks for the help.
