1995 Mercury Sable, goods and bads?

I have a good oppurtunity at getting this car and a great price, has around 100,000 miles on it. Has a V-6, not sure exactly what size. Can anyone tell me goods and bads about this car? (besides its a Ford ) I have a 1984 Ponitac 6000STE right now that I'm not pleased with.

It's a good car unless it's got the 3.8. They have weak headgaskets and it's not a matter of IF they will blow but WHEN. If you can replace them yourself, it's not a big deal though.

Mercury Sables and Ford Taurases are basiclly the same same car. Before you you buy it you should have the tranny checked out. If the tranny goes out it costs more than the car is worth to have it repaired.

    95 sable

had a 95 taurus SE I really liked, had it about 3 yrs. at 36,000 the engine tossed it's cookies. month outa warranty and ford said they were very sorry. a week after I traded it for a grand cherokee ford sends me a letter saying while not an official recall they wanted to give me a new crate engine form ford, all I hadda pay was the instalation charges...
had the big V-6 in it and they were prone to overheating and head damage.

That's the same thing I was talking about. The original head gaskets on the 3.8 are weak and will eventually go. If you don't know what's going on and you keep driving, the motor is toast. You can replace the gaskets with some good aftermarket ones and it won't happen again. Costs about $130 if you do it yourself.

Well it has had the tranny replaced twice, one I think this past year. They guy just put new brakes, struts, and tires on it and I'm getting it for 200$, with 1200$ worth of parts. Plus it will probably run alot better that the POS I have now.

not sure about dependability but i had one and it was fast, LOL It was a spectator car for the local figure-8 races. I only raced it once but it was pretty quick when i did race it. I mean i know it's not a "race" car but that little sable sure surprised me! It didnt do so good when i got rear ended by a big "boat" (cadillac or grand marquis or something) though. I just sold it to a friend a few weeks ago for $10, just needed to get it out of here.

Go for it, $200 is cheap. My cousin has one, lots of electrical probs? otherwise a decent car. Junkyards are loaded with parts.
