    old dog new tricks

having some trouble getting used to that moto4 350 I got couple weeks ago. Seems someone put the tranny in upside down. The gears are all up on it. Mostly all I've ever ridden was hondas where the gears are all down.
Other than a high idle I can't bring down it seems like a good rig. not overly impressed w/ the hi-lo-reverse lever on it but exspect when I get the idle where it needs to be that will improve

Have you tried turning the idle screw on the side of the carb? there should be a little screw with a spring on it sticking out the side of the carb. Do this with the motor running. I believe if you turn it out the idle drops turn it in and the idle will increase.

yeah I've tinkered w/ that and can raise the idle but can't get it lo as I want it. I'm wondering if the spring on the slide is tired/weak???Still cold enough here in NY I am not real interested in working in my shop w/o gloves.

My 3 weeler has the gears upside down too. You shift down to go faster. I guess its like stepping on the gas.

The choke valve sounds like it could be slightly hung open, causing exess RPM at idle. speaking of upside down tranny's, I wonder if you can pull the gears out of say a 250r and reverse them so you shift down to go to a higher gear? Its always easier to "slap" the shifter with your foot that it is to pull up on it.

you might check and see if you have ran out of slack in the throttle cable,,, that will hold the carb open also,,,,

I don't think so. It is the shift drum that changes the gears so you would have to get a new one made. If you try to change the gears, you will find that the big ones don't line up with the shafts the little ones are on right now.
