1985-86 250r clutch! need help

Hi trike fanatics,
I just removed my clutch because it was slippering. My trike is a 1985 but with a 1986 bottom end. There's some pictures of a 250r clutch:

The red line tells what I have in my clutch assembly. But I should have a one piece large needle bearing instead of two needle bearings... I even don't have the washer that separate those two needle bearings.

When I put the two needle bearings on the outer guide, how much space should I have between the end of the outer guide and the end of the needle bearing? see pics below.

So anyone have seen it before? Is it correct of not? The clutch outer has a little play. I can move it a bit around the shaft and bearing, I don't know if it's normal of not. I know that the outer clutch doesn't move except when you kick start the bike.

Your answer would be much appreciated and sorry for my english, I'm from Quebec, Canada.

You need to get the correct parts.
Seems like someone has mixed parts up on you.

Where do you buy 250r "non usual" parts?

I know that transmission well, i completely reworked my 86R transmission. It had two needle bearings together. As long as the needles dont extend past the outer race (outer guide) its OK. The bearings and outer guide should be the same length.

It only takes a small amount of wear on the clutch push rod, the mushroom and ball, to cause loose lever. Slipping can be from glazed fiber plates, sometimes that can be repaired with sandpaper.

There must be a little play in the outer basket. The inner must be tight against the shaft when the large nut is tightened. See in the picture that the outer basket slides in and out on the splines.

Thank you very much for your help. I'll try to find a washer to put between the two needles. So I don't have to worry about the play that my outer basket has around the needle. I bought a barnett dirt digger clutch disk/fiber and springs. Hope my clutch will help to be in front again of my friends banshee.

Heh...I don't believe this. I took my clutch apart because I noticed the play in the outer basket and just wanted to make sure it was assembled correctly and I found what MathGSR98 found. I was missing the washer as well and I had the mixed 85 and 86 parts.

That's weird. So when you were releasing the clutch, you noticed a play in the clutch when it started to grip? Your setup is exactly like mine? I think I'll go to a local metal store or something and get a washer that would fit the best.

I didn't notice anything in the clutch feel. I just noticed when I had the cover off that the basket had a little play in it. The play I found was on the spline fit. The bearings were tight.
I found i was missing the washer just like you. If I were you I would get the proper part from Honda. That washer/spacer will be a different material and hardness that what is found in your local hardware store.

Maybe you're right about the washer. I just don't want to pay 20$ for a damn washer. What will you do on you side?

That washer has been discontinued as per bikebandit.com microfiche and does not even show up on the microfiche on servicehonda.com.
Seems like it is not needed. I'm going to run mine without it as I know it had been ran by the previous owner that way.

I am rebuilding my first 250r motor and I have found that there is no washer to be used and I have 3 full motors in parts.

Also someone slipped me a banshee shift drum and forks. I'm not sure how those go in, but I guess thats for another thread.
