    El Tecate

Been doing some work with the Tecate the past few days. Have a fresh set of crank bearings and seals installed and today I cleaned all the gunk and junk off the frame so the rebuilt motor would have a clean home.

Waiting on gaskets, a MX ported cylinder, KX250 stator coils, jets, rings and a new plug wire.

    Here are some pics.

What a nice spring day! Plenty warm and real sunny. Soon be riding season!

Gonna be hard to ride with no engine, Greenie! Well, you could always truck up to the top of a mountain and coast!

Just kidding. Damn that thing looks nice. Great job.

Awesome! Is that paint or powder on the frame? It'll go like stink with the port job!

Paint. Powder around here is way expensive because of the lack of powdercoaters. Same with ceramic coatings.

Yeah I think with the smaller flywheel and port job it'll pull my arms out their sockets.

Also have a stink load of stickers to cover up the ugly faded gas tank. It should look better at least. Notice the lack of "Champion" sticker on the swinger after I washed it? It pealed right off so I think I'll have some copies made to put all over the fenders, swinger and my helmet when spare change allows.

    Thx guys.

I hope your stink load of stickers on you tank dont peel off. I hear that if you dont Kreem the inside, the gas fumes go through and make them peel off, something like that

Yeah I've had it happen with larger stickers but I think it also had something to do with the Plastic Renew coating that was on the tank as well. Time will tell and if they don't last, oh well, they were free.

    Waiting is killing me slowly.

This rebuild is taking forever. Called Cycle Works today and asked about my cylinder, said they will have it done by the end of the week. Guess the wait on parts from the US is the only thing holding me up. Mounted my "trail" tires and 10 inch rims. Found out I'm running an aftermarket 14 tooth front sprocket (13 is stock), snapped some pics and called it a day. Tomorrow I'm going to make the mount on the carrier fit the 86/87 rear brake system I have.

Future plans include a billit case saver, Moose thumb throttle, and God only knows what else.

This morning I got woke by my friends that hadn't seen my Tecate before. Spent about an hour in the shed just shooting the shat, gawking and talking about how the summer is so close.

Hey just for comparison, how wide is your front end? Asking because the aircooled 81/2 is 14 inches..if i measured correctly

EDIT: Oh yeah! Nice tecate by the way lol:

Wow! That is some great scenery you have there. Is that behind your house or something? Looks like a great place to ride!

Yeah the mountain is one we snowboard down over and have trails behind it. I have a lot of room/trails to ride from my backyard for miles.

This one is on top of a waterfall looking towards my home, you can see it from our kitchen window.

And for comparisons sake...you get to see the fall colours and some more of the view.

Blue in this one is salt water, no better smell to come home from the "mainland" to.

Sorry Cliff, I'll stop after shes finished and I can ride it around lol. Right now this is "my fix." I'd LOVE to trade for your other 86 but man I just couldn't part with this thing, its a blast. Fix up your racer, sell the daily rider you have and buy a cheap (they aren't worth much) first gen. Easier said then done huh?

I made 86 rear brakes fit this 85 today, make the bracket smaller to fit the caliper.

Got the brakes bled but they aren't super strong like my front caliper is. I rebuilt the master/caliper and spent a good 15 minutes bleeding it but its just not strong.

How strong are your 86 rear brakes? I want to be able to brakeslide on tarmac and not have any problem doing it.

Good tech tip is that the 86/87 rear line is longer then stock and will be useful to those with an 84/85 with an extended swinger.

Looks better everytime I see it. How much longer is the 86-87 brake line? Long enough for a 3 inch over swing arm? I really just want to put my factory swinger back on but it looks so horrible. Plus I don't like my longer swinger, maybe once I ride it for more than 10 min. I will though. Really need to get mine finished.
