    need help on honda 185s

I went thru my carb because it was to rich, fouling up the plug with gas? The carb looks very clean. I adjusted the needle at the top of the carb which makes gas rich and lean, it was set to low and adjusted to 2nd slot (supposedly where it should be). I put a new plug in, it does not have any gas on it but it looks black, carbon fouled after riding it a short time. Do I need to keep riding it more to see what the plug looks like in a few days? what do you suggest?

    thanks guys

Try cleaning all your electrical connections of the ignition, check for leaks, and check your air filter. Is it puffing smoke?

Ya, check your air cleaner and if its a reusable one you might try to clean it. Unless that needle is worn, you shouldn't have a problem with it. that sounds about where it should be. Do you have a manual for the carb adjustments? If you had an air leak I you would be running it lean so I would guess its just a dirty filter. Mine came with a dry red shop rag filter and smoked like a Cuban. Mmmmm...Cubans . I think I shall have one this weekend.

The air filter looks pretty clean, however it looks old-maybe original. Should i get a new filter, would that have anything to do with my plug fouling?

No it does not smoke, like in your picture. The mixture adjustment is were it should be. So you would recommend buying an air filter to start with?

A carb kit may be in order by the sounds of it, or get a slightly hotter plug.

That pic is about 4 years old just a couple of days after I got my atc. I hadn't checked any part of it though I figgered it was good to ride but as you can see it was far from it. I had to put in a new piston, air cleaner, oil strainer, gasket set and clean out the muffler that looked like a smoker's lungs. After I thought I cleaned it out with degreaser and draano, it still did that for a little while. The oil filter looked like a small brake drum with the shoes attached to it instead of the axle. That was about 1 cm of crud in there. This was taken with a concord 1.3 megapixel camera. How time flies. Just to the right is a big hole we go shooting guns, coking barbecues and most important drinking beers.
