Brought home a new toy.... Update- Nitrous hit!

    Hey folks...

Just brought home a new toy a couple of days ago and although it only has 2 wheels, it's still a thrill to ride! (1995 Yamaha V-Max 1200) I used to have a souped-up 1985 when I was in college a number of years ago, but had to sell it, because my job at the time had me working silly hours and I had no place to store it in the winter after I moved. It's good to be back in the saddle again and I just *love* that V-boost pull!!!

I wonder if this engine will fit in the '86 350x frame!!

Nice bike. I've always loved the V-max.

Thanks and we're going to put it on the chassis dyno Saturday to see what she has in her and then we're going to tickle it with nitrous a bit to see how she likes it!

Well, we ran the machine on the chassis dyno on Monday and the results were interesting.. It pulled 115 RWHP/79 RWTQ naturally aspirated- the best average of 3 pulls. After we changed the sparkplugs and swtched the engine oil to 15w/40synthetic Redline oil, it picked up to 118 RWHP/81 RWTQ naturally aspirated- the best average of 3 pulls.

We turned the choke on slightly to richen it up for the run and fogged the airbox with nitrous at the air-intake snorkels and it pulled 140 RWHP/91 RWTQ!

    It *loved* it!!!

Now I just need to configure some kind of system I can adapt n20 to this bike...

I've experimented around a bit more with the dry-shot of n20 on this thing and have been able to richen-it up pretty easily using the choke circuit of the carbs. I've machined a detent stop for the choke lever so that when I want n20 use, all I have to do is reach down and flip the choke lever down until it stops at the detent position I pre-selected, for the correct amount of enrichment. It only takes a *very* small amount of choke to richen the AFR a *bunch* and so far, it's been quite effective/repeatable...

Since no one else has an interest in this, I guess I'll just keep posting to myself..

I think the biggest challenge is going to be how to configure the spray-bar into the airbox, where all 4 velocity stacks receive the same amount of n20 with each hit. From what I can see, if dual custom spray bars are fabricated similarly in design to what a common under-carb n20 plate for an auto engine is and then integrated into the box on either side of the lid- it should work...I hope.

We'll see how it goes and I'll probably try that first.

Couldnt you just Drill and tap The big bell end of each carb for a nozzle??? im no N20 guru...just an idea....

    No, for three reasons mainly.

    1. Even with the smallest jets in the nozzles, you would not be able to jet it down low enough for the engine to take it..

    2. Adding multiple nozzles adds a significant amount of system complexity, bulkiness and weight- which is not what I want for a motorcycle, especially this one that already weighs in at over 570 lbs. wet..

    3. System simplicity is key for making any n20 system easy to maintain and durable. The more junk that's added, the greater chance on something either sticking open.... or sticking closed...

Personally, I would hope that it never "sticks open"!!!

Well that makes sense!! Last summer the N2o on my neighbours Mini choper thing stuck or something....Blew the thing up and poped the air-cleaner off....
