    Question TriMoto 200 Questions

    Hi,

I just got a mid 80's Yamaha TriMoto 200 (4 stroke) given to me and I have a few questions about it. First what kind of oil does it take (weight/type) and second what would cause it to smoke alot? It starts right up even when cold very easily but once warm, it smokes white smoke like crazy. I haven't ridden it yet so maybe it just needs to be run more or is there something wrong with it?? I've already cleaned the carb and it's in good working order. Any Ideas?

    Thanks

as for oil, 10w30 will work, 5w30 will work too. as long as its clean. as for the smoke, maybe time for a new topend. does it have good compression?

White smoke normally means water - try draining the tank (if you haven't already) and putting fresh gas in it and see if that helps.

Thanks for the help. I haven't tested the compression yet (my compression tester only fits cars and sleds) but it seems to be good. I wouldn't think it would start as good as it does if it had poor compression. I've put new gas in (and drained the tank) so it isn't that. I'll just have to ride it more and see what happens. It's a freebee so I'm not too concerned. Thanks again

    i have a yamahauler 1983 200. (same thing)
i just got it back from my friend who had it for 2 years and now it smokes alot and there is a ticking sound. Also, when i was riding for about half an hour it started to make a squeaking sound from the cylinder!. Then it started to seize and lose all power.
it still runs and starts, but it seems to be seizing slowly for some reason.
where can i find a new top end?

well i changed the oil. the drain plug is on the left side by the shifter. there is a screen in there that was totally blocked with oil,and a spring. the oil that drained out looked terrible. i cleaned the screen, and put it all back togethor. When started it ran smokey and i only made it 30 feet before it just quit and wouldnt start again. now when i pull the starter cord it feels as if theres no compression at all!
