    85 110atc -- won't start

Just bought a '85 honda 110 from a friend, and it won't start. He told me he usually messes around with the 2 screws, but didn't know what they did. It's the mix and idle screws. And it usually took him 20 minnutes to get it going if it had sat for awhile.

Anyway, I haven't had a 3 wheeler since the early 90's (big red 250). What are your recommendations for getting it in running shape?

    thanks,

Check all electrical connections for corrosion, clean if necessary. Check your airfilter, if the filter is dirty it won't allow enough air in for proper combustion. Check the valve adjustment. If your valves aren't working properly it may not allow fuel into the engine or spent exhaust out of the engine, which won't allow for proper combustion. You could also check the timing. Make sure to get yourself a manual for the 110, honda being the best. It will tell you how to do all these tuning procedures.

start with fuel, fire, and air

back your idle screw all the way out, and put your air screw all the way in - then back in out about 1.5 turns. drain your float bowl and see what the fuel looks like - pull your plug and try dry firing it by grounding it on the case when you pull start it. try starting it up again, give her a little throttle if shes stubborn (try choke)

if you have to give it throttle to keep it running and it seems like the carb is tuned then you can turn your idle screw in a bit to keep it running.

check that stuff VM said (except for the valves, hes crazy) surely the valve adjustment isnt way off
    LOL whats up VM!
you think when the valve seats get worn enough it affects the adjustment? hmm..

remove the plug.. do the test as above.. if you have spark then with a spray bottle or funnel pour a few drops ie: don't fill the cylinder.. just a few drops will do.. put the plug back in and try it.. if it sputters a few times then quits.. it's the carb.. reset to factory settings and it should start.. then run it t'il warm and fine tune the carb.

    good luck !
