Not really looking for a whole lot of stuff right now, kinda broke, and the T3 needs some money firstI want to do it, just not in the real near future. Just outta curiousity, what do you have? I think the EX500 would be really kick ass! If I am correct that is the Ninja motor right?
Joe
I'd go for the Ninja 250 swap. That thing has a 14k redline!

i wanna morph a tecate motor into a blaster frame...extremely light, gutwrenching power, what a combination.
1985 KXT 250 Tecate - kx cylinder, kx ignition, bassani headpipe, answer silencer, v-force reeds, 38mm airstyker carb, +2 franks swinger, raptor rear shock.
1996 YSF240 Blaster - maxxed out!!!
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "HOLY SH-T, what a ride!"
If your going to do somthing like that I would look for a newer KX250 motor. The Tecates are counterbalanced anyways so your not gain much vibration, and the power output on some of the mid ninties ones was in the 50hp range!!! Oh and they are cheap, and your not gonna wreck a good Tecate.

As for the 250, I want somthing that is lightweight, makes good power, and has a fairly large aftermarket. I really don't think the 250 motor would be a good choice for a woods runner, but if I was building one for the dunes that would definatly be the way to go. If I am correct thise are twins aren't they?
tecate kid
Yes they are twins and your definately right bigbore about the low end power of the 500 compared to the 250. Its just the 250 revability would stay in theme with the Tecate.
Personally Trike Kid, I'd stick the 45 tooth rear sprocket on your 84 T3 and call it a day. You will gain loads of bottom end with that sprocket. Throw some 22 inch Holeshots on the rear, get your shock rebuilt and go have fun.
FYI, I may have my 45 tooth sprocket for sale in the near future.
I considered doing the swap when I had my 86 T3. It would take way to much hacking of the T3 frame to make the motor fit, so I just bought a 95 KX250 motor and installed it. It definitly ripped!

Virgil, does a 95 KX250 bolt right in no questions asked? If so thats something I never knew!

The EX500 is a great motor, very very reliable and they make mad amounts of torque for just a 500 twin, plus, you have alot of options available for modding them (pipes, cams, i think you can even get a 525 big bore kit for them)
good luck with the project and let us know what you do.

Currently Trikeless- but I have a LT250R
How much hacking was involved? I know the tops of them are a whole lot bigger but is there really that much hacking that needs to be done? Oh and like I have said I am just testing the water on this project, not really ready to spend the money needed to finish it.
