    dual purpose ?'s

I've been looking at all the dual sport bikes out there, yamaha, suzuki, honda etc, as it will be my first bike and I'm a little gunshy of a lot of power to start off with. I'd like to hear from anybody out that owns one. With gas $3 a gallon, looks like this guy needs a bike.

What kinda Dualsport like offroad? the Suzki 400 would be a good start, they are Kinda Sluggish and cant get you in much trouble, but of course i would Go right up to a XL/R 650R honda..........Oddles of Power and a Nice handling bike.

the suzuki was one i was looking at, I can't believe honda only has 1 dual. i'm not a speed freak, all my trikes are 200cc or less. I am just looking for some real life reviews. Nothing major highway driving wise, just work and stuff like that. The kawasaki 650 dual has real nice reviews too.

You can pick up a used Suzuki DR350 for real cheap. Not much power but reliable and good on gas.

I have a 01 xr250r I am made street legal. I love it, the top speed is around 80. Accelaeration and street riding is respectable, but its alittle hard for street riding. It gets very good gas mileage, now I have ported head, bigger carb, full pipe system, smaller rear and bigger front sprocket, street leagl dual sport tires, baja designs dual sport kit, some kind of cruiser speedometer/mile guage, 55/100w headlight bulb and reround stator on it. It a good bike for non-highway street riding and its not good for a long distance straight away, as it has dirt internal gearing and isn't desighned to go 100 like the xl650, but it weights alot less and is much easier to ride, especailly on the dirt.

I have a 98 KTm 620 Rxc. has a nice power range, its pretty fast, i like it. my friend has a Klr650 they are fun a bit heavy but the big tank is good and they get good gasmilage.

I dont hear much good about the xr650L i hear it is a pig that needs to be updated very badly. but i never rode one.

Husky makes 50 state legal Ds ranging from 250 on up to 610? but they arent cheap.

THe Dr350 is a pretty good bike, there are a lot out there they are cheap and reliable. Same with the 400 you can probobly find one of them for pretty cheap also.

Has anybody ever ridden the yamaha xt225 or the tw200? Those aren't priced to bad brand new, I'd rather go used myself. I'm not a speed freak or anything, my 7 mile to work commute would be about it, and the back roads/trails.
