    newbie performance questions

I just bought an 86 250r atc all stock. I know I need a pipe and silencer but what else should I do to it on a budget to make this thing screem? I don't want to be beat by any of my boys and thier 4 stroke quads. And where is the best place to get these parts..... Thanks for the help...

filter, jet it, raise gearing (one up in front and a smaller rear 14/38-39?, maybe a port and polish. Once you raise the gearing on thoes they fly.

The pipe will be your first real HP gain, then you start giving it more fuel, like good reeds, bigger carb, good filter ect...Gearing is also a good idea.I would just drop the front sprocket i tooth, and run good fuel & oil. Hope that helps!

Question is where do you want to go fast? An all out speed race or just a short drag?

Cheap way to go is milling the head for more compression, new reeds and a pipe/rejet.

What's a good amount to mill? That would be like shaving the entire flat part of the head right? I ask because I'm pretty new to this whole area of 3-wheelers.

Assuming it runs well as it is: pipe it, K&N, boysen reeds, jet it, and down a tooth on the front. then see if you want to jump into all this head work, especially if yer new to all this. These are just the basics that should only see ya back 600 or 700 bucks. Look online for cheap suppliers. Rocky mountain atv has sprockets for like 8 bucks. If that isnt fast enough for ya then tear er apart and go to town. port and polish, carb, 310 kit....arrg arrg arrgg
